The Goals Mind Map
The Mind Map turns your list of goals into a visual tree. Each goal becomes a color-coded card, and lines connect parent goals to their sub-goals — so you can see at a glance how this month's targets ladder up to annual milestones and lifetime ambitions.
Open the Mind Map
- Open Goals from the sidebar
- Click the Mind Map button next to + New Goal
- When you're done, click ← Back to Goals to return to the list
Reading the map
Cards are colored by timeframe, achieved goals turn gold, and overdue goals turn red. The Controls panel lets you zoom in and out, fit the whole map on screen, and switch between a top-to-bottom and a left-to-right layout. On the right, the Filter by Status panel shows a count for each status — click any status chip to show only those goals, and Clear to reset.
Linking goals on the map
The Mind Map isn't just for viewing — you can restructure your goals directly on it:
- Link: drag from a handle on one goal card to a handle on another to make the first goal the parent
- Unlink: click the connecting line and press Delete
Links follow the timeframe hierarchy: a lifetime goal can be the parent of an annual or monthly goal, and an annual goal can be the parent of a monthly goal — but not the other way around. A goal can only have one parent, so unlink it first if you want to move it under a different goal. You can also create a goal without leaving the map using the Add New Goal button.
Connecting goals to your work
Goals connect to your day-to-day work through links. In the goal form's More options section, use Linked Tasks to attach the tasks that move a goal forward — linked and completed tasks, along with sub-goals, feed into the goal's progress. See Creating goals for the full form, and Creating habits for building the daily routines that support your goals.
